Who am I?

Hey! My name is Nimai Gomes, I am 22 years old and a long time gamer.

Just like everyone I started simple, Pokemon, Zelda, GTA, Super Monkey Ball, Metroid and so on, though I got my first taste of competition at 12 years old in competitive Chess, when I started to take MW2 seriously (cheesy I know). I experienced the feeling of playing a game to beat others rather than just mess around.

From there, I took my first real step into E-sports pursuing SSBM (Super Smash Bros Melee). I spent the next 3 years heavily investing in mastering the game I still believe to be one of the hardest E-Sports of all time. With frame perfect executions, heavy discipline, and good reaction time being the norm, I learned to change my mentality when it comes to improvement. I went from blaming lag, other people, B.S characters, being tired, and anything else under the moon, to only blaming myself. Sadly, due to injuries from playing SSBM (I was using my thumb too fast, and it was twitching) I realized that maybe I was taking things too far. So I made the move to PC gaming, and with that came Overwatch.

My Overwatch Story

I fell in love with the game right away, but it’s safe to say I didn’t do too good at first… My first placement was 1400, and steadily I declined to 1200. Despite the low rank, I wasn’t let down too much. I was convinced I could do better – that I can improve and that no one can tell me otherwise.

That’s when I started my journey to improve; day after day, I studied other top players. Rather than simply watching, I analyzed what I saw, taking a lot of things I liked to heart, but establishing what I didn’t. With my past experience in SSBM (Super Smash Bros Melee), I was able to learn the difference between good and bad habits, and learned to change my mentality. So with that, I gradually worked on one aspect at a time. It was slow, and painstakingly boring at times, but before I knew it, I was plat next season, masters the next, and a couple seasons later I was GM. From that point forward, I never looked back.

Fast forward to today, and I have been Top 500 for several seasons now. For the past 2 years, I have been coaching and doing my best to help many players improve, and change their mentality of Overwatch for the better.
